Are there pancakes involved? Golden Corral sounds like a pancake joint to me - I think they used to have one in Toronto.

I am so out of touch with things these days. I will just go crawl back under that rock for now and Google Golden Corral later.

I hate Golden Corral.

...thank you for the unbiased opinion...you know what???...I'm more than a bit hurt and offended by a mere suggestion I made...I'm not advocating for them, just trying to come up with somewhere we could all gather....but from the general griping I am out of it...everyone can decide when they get there...thanks Bob and Neesy for your encouragement...Tracy and I were just trying to keep the cost involved down as much as we could because of the concern all had raised about their finances...I'm usually thick-skinned, but I did not expect this level of negativity...

...then someone make a suggestion...it's the only family oriented restaurant with a banquet facility in that area that I can think of....can't and won't do a place that serves liquor since there are going to be young kids...jokes are fine, but helpful suggestions would be better-I'm just one dude...

Let me say a big Thankee to Scott-- he and Tracy are doing a fantastic job organizing this years King Kon.
Everyone has their own liking/disliking of a particular restaurant. That's ok- Remember, this is a Ka-Tet friendly social meeting. A gathering of many who become one. Yes, there will be children attending the meal gathering, so certain establishments are off limits.
Take a look at the website for the Golden Coral. You might be surprised at what is offered. And it looks to be close to the Mall too.

The gluttony. The one in my part of the world is loaded with people who weigh 500 pounds. Or senior citizens (which I am) And the tables are super close. And everyone is practically sitting on you feeding their faces from plates that are piled sky high. It just grosses me out. Plus, I just know that someone is going to have a heart attack or stroke out while I'm there. G.O.M.E.R.s go to ground. It's the law.

And yes, this restaurant is very close to my home and they constantly have ambulances in the parking lot. I never go unless forced to by a group thing.

So it is an "all you can eat" buffet type of thing?

Scott - it is the people who will be attending that count - it is always easy to insult someone over the internet these days (whether it is intentional or not).

I just KNOW we will all have a great time - don't let the negativity get you down okay? (this is not the Politics as Usual thread so we can at least be civil to each other).

You are doing an excellent job thus far and we all have a lot of faith in you!

Well, for what it's worth, Memphis is a "2" on a safety scale based on 100. So, anyhow. Golden Corral is a decent, well priced, buffet that is family friendly. I think the bad thing for me would be no booze - but that's just me. If I can make it, I'll just bring a flask of something potent stashed - and they'll never know . Just keep me from dancing on the tables. I do hope I get to meet everyone.

Golden Corral... what's not to like? Lots of choices, different types of food from salad bar to Chinese to southern, etc... It's just good fresh food economically priced with lots of variety.
