Written in My Own Heart's Blood and Personal (ARC of the latest in the Jack Reacher series). Waiting for the latest Kathy Reichs--Bones of the Lost--novel to arrive. Should have plenty to keep me busy on my vacation next week.

You hadn't--I don't think you had anyway. Have been meaning to mention it but it sneaked up on me that it's next week already and Friday is 4th of July holiday so will really be on vacation after end of day on Thursday. You're on vacation next week?
(How did I miss this?! )
My boys have two weeks holiday starting from Mon 7th... I forgot that your July holiday usually coincides with theirs... I really can't believe it's July already!!! Bloody hell, this year is zipping by!You hadn't--I don't think you had anyway. loved the Talisman hope you go to black house while its still fresh in your mind.I'm just getting into The Talisman for the first time. I'm also going to read the short story The Crate. After the Talisman I may go right on to Black House.
The author's name looks familiar to me. Must have read a short story by him in the past maybe?Found this novel in my Amazon meanderings: The Bedlam Detective by Stephen Gallagher. It's rated pretty high by most reviewers. Anyone read it?
I read those a long time ago & remember really liking them. I liked his Civil War trilogy, too.I'm reading The Bastard by John Jakes, the first book in the 8 volume Kent Family Chronicles. I've been meaning to read these for years and not too long ago found the entire 8 volume set of hardcover book club editions in the clearance section of Half Price Books for a dollar per book. All in excellent condition too.

Have you read the latest collection of her short stories? Chestnut Street. I liked it MUCH better than the novel they slapped together right after she died--I thought that great swaths of that one read like writer's notes and rough drafts. She deserved better than that.I'm reading Maeves Times, a collection of newspaper articles from 1960's to 2000's, written by Maeve Binchy & put together by her husband following her death.
The 1985 TV mini-series was outstanding too - anyone out there remember it?Yeah, the North and South trilogy is my favorite John Jakes work, and the first thing of his I ever read, many, many years ago.
Didn't watch it when it first aired but I do remember the gals swooning over Patrick! The 1985 TV mini-series was outstanding too - anyone out there remember it?
Schlep down memory lane on YouTube or discover it anew.
I don't think any network (in the US) would dare produce something like this now.
Pity.
And it's a good excuse to watch Patrick Swayze z'l in another dazzling performance.
Patrick - left the stage too soon. .
