Quoting shakespeare at me, are you? I can't forget Anne of Green Gables response to that. something like "but names do matter. I don't think the Rose would have been as happy and pretty if people had called it "Frog Feet" or something. It would have hurt its feelings, don't you think?"Oh, please. Just call it Macaroni Surprise and call it a day. A rose by any other name, and all that.
Well, I suppose you could argue that to call that particular dish "American chop suey" is both an insult to the Chinese and great American cooks everywhere.Quoting shakespeare at me, are you? I'll send a recipe in a PM. It's not difficult, only time-consuming. It's delicate and fragrant and fabulous with braised baby bok choy.Man that sounds good. I've never had that.
My husband loves bok choy, me, no.I'll send a recipe in a PM. It's not difficult, only time-consuming. It's delicate and fragrant and fabulous with braised baby bok choy.
Oh, then sautéed oyster mushrooms. Whatever Chinese veggie you decide to cook.My husband loves bok choy, me, no.
I've never had braised bok choy, so I might like that. love sauteed mushrooms.Oh, then sautéed oyster mushrooms. Whatever Chinese veggie you decide to cook.
I read somewhere that chop suey was invented in San Francisco Chinatown around the turn of the last century. Made up left overs that had to be used up. I believe fortune cookies are supposed to have been invented at around the same time and place.Chop Suey is American, I think
What kind of tea?
I can't take you anywhere with me....dim sum?..dod a chik...dum a chum?....
That's great, because according to OoO (today, anyway), no soup for you!I'm partial to pepper steak, and soup. But I won't order soup on Fridays, however.
Right on. Never touch it on Friday. That's great, because according to OoO (today, anyway), no soup for you!
I love eggs rolls with duck sauce and just a smidge of hot mustard. When I order Chinese I get 2 egg rolls and a bowl of hot & sour soup. And then I can't get my rings off when I go to bed that night. It's an occasional treat.I'm friends with the family that runs the local Chinese food place. They have confirmed that what they sell bears no resemblence to what they eat at home. LOL! I'm a sucker for it, though. My new favorite is egg rolls with duck sauce. The egg roll is just about the perfect portion size for my tum tum, and there's nothing wrong with duck sauce.
...and now I'm hungry!
I was so inspired by the day that I took my Tall Guy out for China buffet. I got my egg roll. And 1 piece of butter potato. And two bites of black pepper chicken. I'm still pretty miserably stuffed. No regrets.I love eggs rolls with duck sauce and just a smidge of hot mustard. When I order Chinese I get 2 egg rolls and a bowl of hot & sour soup. I am waiting for this recipe. I am serious. I want to try this. We have an asian market so use whatever you would use, meaning you don't have to substitute something American for a hard to find asian ingredient.I'll send a recipe in a PM. It's not difficult, only time-consuming. It's delicate and fragrant and fabulous with braised baby bok choy.
