Not many big cities here, but most have numbered streets (very few names). I found it very weird when we first moved here, but I would have given anything to go back to numbers when I went to college in another state: how the heck do you find Oak street amongst a grove of street names?! Going number by number is logical procession is so much easier! When you live in a big city like me, all the streets and avenues are numbered.
Yep, it makes a big difference. With over a million or so population, it would be confusing. We have a few major routes like Wayne Gretzky drive, but the rest are numbered. Not many big cities here, but most have numbered streets (very few names). I remember moving there and wondering about that - I think it is called a 'grid system'?When you live in a big city like me, all the streets and avenues are numbered.
In the core of town, we have tree names one way (mostly) - Mulberry, Magnolia, Olive, Oak. Maple, Cherry, Sycamore, Linden.
The other direction has names of prominent townspeople of old.
What bugs the dickens out of me is the penchant this town has for having a street name change as it crosses another road. We have a great planning and zoning department here, but this aspect just makes no sense to me.
Valour Road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaYears ago, we lived along a golf course and all the streets around were named after famous golfers. We lived on Tigerwoods Drive. Now we're thinking about buying a house in a new housing development that's being built where a drive-in used to stand. All the streets there are named after famous old-time movie stars. Is this just a California thing, or are there celebrity street names where you live too? (In addition to the names of presidents, Martin Luther King, etc…)
