When you live in a big city like me, all the streets and avenues are numbered.
Not many big cities here, but most have numbered streets (very few names). I found it very weird when we first moved here, but I would have given anything to go back to numbers when I went to college in another state: how the heck do you find Oak street amongst a grove of street names?! Going number by number is logical procession is so much easier! :)

Yep, it makes a big difference. With over a million or so population, it would be confusing. We have a few major routes like Wayne Gretzky drive, but the rest are numbered.

In the core of town, we have tree names one way (mostly) - Mulberry, Magnolia, Olive, Oak. Maple, Cherry, Sycamore, Linden.

The other direction has names of prominent townspeople of old.

What bugs the dickens out of me is the penchant this town has for having a street name change as it crosses another road. We have a great planning and zoning department here, but this aspect just makes no sense to me.

Here there is no numbered streets. Might be logical but also gives a cold impression to me. I prefer names. My street name is Råg (means Rye) Some of the major streets are named after our mythology. Valhall, Thor, Oden, Frey and so on, Others after our history, Kings, Queens, Vasa (one of our major lineages of kings, started in the 16 century) and so on.

Same issue here Grandpa/ as soon as road crosses the one you are on, the name changes. Were told it makes it "safer" for first responders.
Rural here, so critter names, tree names, bird names. Nature orientated. The first "city" uses Presidents names.

Years ago, we lived along a golf course and all the streets around were named after famous golfers. We lived on Tigerwoods Drive. :facepalm_smiley: Now we're thinking about buying a house in a new housing development that's being built where a drive-in used to stand. All the streets there are named after famous old-time movie stars. Is this just a California thing, or are there celebrity street names where you live too? (In addition to the names of presidents, Martin Luther King, etc…)

Valour Road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We do have one street called Valour Road where three men who all served in the First World War happened to live but not too sure about actual well known celebrities (??)

Whim of the developer, I think. We have one development where someone was a "Centennial" nut, and the streets are named Clay Basket, Blue Leaf, Michener, Zendt, Brumbaugh, and so on.

We live in a "stone" subdivision. Stoneridge, Summerstone, Sunstone, all kinds of nonexistent stones. Another one has Wapiti, Kodiak, Caribou, Arctic Fox. One subdivision is laid out around a golf course, with street names like Front Nine and Fairway Five.

I grew up in a town that had streets like Washington, Jefferson, Monroe, Hudson, Market, and Main. Now, those are street names.
