I'm about 60 pages in and am really enjoying it. I especially like the ties to Mr. Mercedes.

Awesome! Let us know how it is when you finish it.I specialize in collecting King's pre-publication works and this is another add to my collection.

I meant to say that the reader of the series does an absolutely spectacular job. I've never heard ANYONE "do the voices" as well as she does.I can't remember what I've posted last in this thread, but I started the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher, the author of the spectacular Dresden Files series. My SO, who likes both endless series and high fantasy, prodded me to start it. Since he had it in audio, and since it was Jim Butcher, I finally did, somewhat begrudgingly (I only rarely feel inclined to either long series or high fantasy).
Damn, but Jim Butcher can write. I finished Furies of Calderon and am on to Academ's Fury.

I finished "The Goldfinch" yesterday. (Donna Tartt). Wonderful writing, and a beautiful story with characters so well drawn they might as well be chatting with you at your kitchen table.
MadamMack - been awhile since I read the book, excellent story, wonderful characters. And an ending that will stay with you for a long time. Hope you will get to read it soon.I have this, but I was afraid I wouldn't like it . . .I bought it because of Stephen and Susan Norton's suggestions. I felt it would be too female-ish for me, but now I think I'll like it because of your comment. Thanks . . .
I would never think this might be too "female-ish" for anybody. Certainly never struck me that way. And, I agree with Spideyman, the ending is one that will stick with you. I must admit, I never anticipated the ending, but I thought she did it just right. I'll be interested to see how you like it!I have this, but I was afraid I wouldn't like it . . .I bought it because of Stephen and Susan Norton's suggestions.
