A couple days ago I was watching a bird on the pond I'd never seen before. It kinda looked like a duck except it was white and more than twice the size of the mallards that are commonly on the pond. While I was watching it, a bald eagle dropped out of the sky and swooped down on it. I've only seen bald eagles on tv so I was amazed! and horrified... I don't like those escape or become dinner nature films :( The bird dove under the water and the eagle flew low over the pond waiting for it to resurface. The eagle attacked again as soon as the bird surfaced but the bird dove back under the water. The eagle flew over to a tree and watched the bird for about 30 minutes before it flew off.

The bird has continued to hang around the pond but I haven't seen the eagle again. Hubby thinks the bird is an aflac duck. I think its a snow goose. I haven't been able to see its beak well enough to see if its a duckbill but the feathers on its wingtips are black so I'm guessing goose.

I wish I could have taken a photo :( A good camera that takes closeups is still on my wish-list :(

That goose is still hanging out at the pond and I'm worried about it. Where are all its goose friends? Don't geese flock together? Shouldn't it be on its way up north with all its goose buddies? It's spread its wings but it hasn't flown anywhere - it mostly stays by the edge of the pond and occasionally waddles into the woods. I hope that lousy bald eagle didn't hurt it. I do not like bald eagles anymore now that I've actually seen one :(

Did you try going out and playing Duck Duck Goose with him?

Goose is still with us and I feel really sad for it. I read that geese mate for life and will leave their flock to follow their mate to the ground if their mate is injured. I'll bet that horrid eagle got Goose's mate :(

Yesterday I saw a large bird flying over the trees. I ran to the kitchen window to see if Goose was safely on the pond. It wasn't. A minute later, Goose came waddling as fast as it could out of the woods toward the pond, another eagle closing in fast. Goose made it to the water in time and I breathed a sigh of relief.

I think yesterday's eagle was a juvenile bald eagle. It was multi-colored and a bit bigger than the first bald eagle that attacked Goose. I hope there isn't an eagle nest nearby. My dog only weighs a couple pounds more than Goose. I do not like nature!
