It's quick and easy (a source of Twitter's strength as well as its propensity for misunderstanding). Twitter is just a social media tool, like any other, and I get why he might choose to use it: no one expects a deep, meaningful conversation there, and there's instant response. Several authors use it very effectively to communicate with readers. Personally, I've had some funny or interesting exchanges with several authors I admire. Michael Grant, John Scalzi, Margaret Atwood, Christopher Moore, Joe Hill, Neil Gaiman, and Joanne Harris are the ones that immediately come to mind as authors who interact regularly with readers (without constantly shilling their books). I'm sure there are more, but those are a few that I enjoy and follow :)

JK Rowling uses twitter very effectively. Many "drop the mic" moments.

I just set up a twitter so I can watch it.. (before I saw we didn't have to have a twitter account) I don't think twitter is for me.. what exactly is it for? To throw random crap out to the wind?
Depends on who you follow. If you follow crap slingers, that's what you'll get. It's all up to you. I personally started because i have friends worldwide, and Twitter is a platform wherein all of us can be on at the same time and have a real time chat without futzing with Skype (though we do that for more personal or involved chats). For example, I remember many mornings when I was on in mountain time US, with friends from NYC, Dublin, Perth, Madrid, London, Jamaica, TN, OK, FL, and it was great craic for a morning (morning for me, anyway--lol) chat. We still do that. I also follow authors and musicians that interest me, and a few news (I've often seen breaking news items on Twitter long before they hit radio or TV news) and comedy sites. You only see what you want to see, and if you put your settings on 'private', no one can follow you and read whatever you decide to put out there without your permission. I don't spend a lot of time there, but it can be interesting :)

But those people would be wrong ;) (not really--I don't like chocolate pie, either. Too sweet)
I like rhubarb pie but wouldn't say it's my favorite so only having it in the spring when rhubarb is in season doesn't bother me. Pumpkin is probably my all-time favorite pie. I know Steve likes coconut cream and pretty sure he likes custard pie but don't know if he's a fan of rhubarb or if there's another flavor he likes best.

I like cherry and strawberry (that little 'bite' of the fruit cuts the sweet), but my favorite is pecan. I can't have it in the house or I'll eat the whole thing--don't know why the tons of sugar in that doesn't bother me! A little slice of coconut creme or pumpkin is a joy, too :)

Is there a specific time slot for the questions/answers, or an on and off as he has free time-- not paying with Molly?
He's going to do it "on Thursdays" and according to his tweet the time limit will be "until I get bored and take the Thing of Evil out to play" so he's leaving it pretty open-ended as to when he'll shut it down or how many Thursdays he'll be doing it. He typically does his writing in the morning so I wouldn't think he'd respond to any questions submitted then until later on in the day.
