Dear Mr. King,
You have scared the bejesus out of me since I read the Shining on a Grey hound bus trip from Maine to California, in the 80s. THANK YOU !
When I lived in Houlton, you spoke at UMPI. At the time, my cousin, a too old for collage, eccentric grey haired man, hounded you to sign a photograph of me and my girlfriend at the time. He was relentless and you finally did sign the back of the picture.
You spoke to the students about some ideas you had about the town dump being so close to the cemetery (in Houlton) as well as the statue of a civil war soldier in the park there. Do you have any recollection of this ?
Also just FYI, My step daughter waited on you at "the corner store", My wife saw you down at "Nicky's", my mom met you at "a meeting" (you commented on her skeleton earrings) and you signed a book for my best friend's wife at the Heritage Inn in Carson City, NV, when I lived there ! Yet, I have never had the honor of even catching a glimpse of you after all these years ! My doctor advised me to "walk" in order to fend off diabetes. So I do, (with 2 artificial knees) and a large Flying Elvis logo on my back, from "Forest Park", up Union, to your street, right by your cool creepy gate and "big green frog", to Hammond, and back down 14th to Forest Park. I am a huge fan (not to be confused with Annie Wilks) and hope to someday be able to thank you in person and shake the hand of The Greatest horror novelist of all time ! P.S. "Don't ever call me Buster !" Thanks
