I have an awesome recipe for hot dog chili.....no beans.

...thank you kind sir, right after my Baker's Dozen of Dogs and cold brewski combo....and of course,can't forget the deep dish chocolate chip cookies for dessert,for the GNT..
...hot dogs?...hells to the yeah!....I'll eat em most anyway, but like em grilled da bestest...they can even be slaughterhouse floor sweepings wrapped in an edible dog shaped tube...long as it's got Stadium Mustard on it-it's all good!!!....

I am not what the original post probably means by "American" (meaning, I am American, from the continent, not "American", from the USA), but here is my take.
I usually have both mustard and ketchup on hot dogs. I actually did not know they were not meant to have ketchup.
However, I like mustard better than ketchup, so I could eat a hot dog without the latter, but hardly without the former.

I actually had chili dogs in Cincinnati with buddies years ago,at the place in Cincy that claims the best chili cheese dogs..they were okay,but not really my taste,too much cheese for me..

You ARE a weirdo Marsha!I suspect my immune system has been built up from my growing up years when leaving food out on the table/counter much longer than nowadays wasn't a big deal. But now that you mention it, maybe they did put it out when they gave us our order. I don't remember having to ask for it and was thinking how nice it was not to be thought of as a weirdo for using mayo on french fries.

Cant remember the name of the place,but that may be it GNT,they also did spaghetti noodles with chili and cheese,but no beans in the chili..think my buddies were disappointed that I didn't like them as much as they did,like everything,aquired tastes..except mayonnaise on fries,still a little queasy on that one..
