The Tirana from the books is described in Robin Furth's Concordance as one of the Can-Toi. This is the text from her entry in the Concordance:
TIRANA: When we meet this obese low woman in the Dixie Pig, she is wearing a strapless, silver evening dress. Detta Walker rips off her mask and exposes the rat beneath. VI: 365-71, VII: 13-15, VII: 25.

I don't have any more information than you do at the moment as to why/how this character is going to fit into the movie but will try to find out. I might not be able to release anything more if the producers do not want that information to go out publicly yet, though.
...exactly, and now I do remember the character-thanks to Marsha....well, that and the fact I was to fat & lazy to get out of my GNT recliner and get my copy of Robin's book.....And in classic Hollywood "wisdom" she is now an Australian Supermodel who apparently is a lead in the film.

Like I said before, I do not watch tv or movies. I missed most of the stuff written by Uncle Steve. I just read the works and that was it. I thought I might make an exception with The Dark Tower. After reading about where this is heading, I have changed my mind. Nevermind the fact that Hollywood will take license with any work, this is The Tower....this is different. We have been reading it for over twenty bloody years. They should have taken that into consideration. It would be like making a movie about Christ on the cross and ending it differently. I will never watch this.
Wisdom. Right here. Thank you, Spidey. No matter what they do in the movie, the books will always be the one and only journey. It remains written/ Within these written words, the reader visualizes the character as describe by SK. We become one with them. We travel and follow the beams path.
In my mind, when and if changes are made(as I am reading) it will become another journey-- one this constant reader will not take. I am one of those who took the journey, book by book, waiting on the mono forever. Following the Tet- becoming part of the Tet. The journey is taken again each Fall. If this project proceeds, I shall sit and read the books- the moving pictures will play within my minds eye, not on a movie screen. All will be as it was written.
This actress better start eating then!!!!!!!!!The Tirana from the books is described in Robin Furth's Concordance as one of the Can-Toi. This is the text from her entry in the Concordance:

So...Abbey Lee needs to gain a bit of weight before filming.

No King movie has ever been nominated for an Oscar has it? Is that what this is about? (Rhetorical question. Not expecting an answer.)
Rhetorical or not I can't resist. Shawshank was nominated for multiple Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Screenplay. The Best Actor nomination was for Morgan Freeman playing the character of Red, who I believe is white in the book.
...Red's race and other physical traits weren't as focused upon or eked out in asides and passages over such a long period of time.....I don't recall Red's race mattering to the story though.
Thanks for reminding me about Shawshank. I had forgotten.
...this is absolute awesome perfection.....I say we make Pere Callahan be the star, only have him played by Sinead O'Conner (ask yer parents, kids), and instead of guns (heaven forbid), the Tet can carry mystical tasers. Oy should be a cat, because, you know, everyone loves cat videos these days. Have the whole thing take place in Cuba, before the revolution, set to an all techno score by The Crystal Method. Maybe Papa John could direct?
And, really, Dark Tower is such a depressing title. How about, TOWER: Search For The Golden Thimble?
