Think of the possibilities- cognitive and tactile. Alphabet with sign language next to it/ animals/ touch and feel/ numbers/ endless possibilities. "Quiet Books"-- yep- the world moved on!
YES, SIGN LANGUAGE!!!!! Marsha, tell your daughter to teach Elle baby signs. My little guys both learned baby sign and it was so amazing to be able to communicate with them before they were verbal!

Was thinking of one to teach colors that would be really good for using up scraps as I could make several things with different shades of the same color.

I've meant to ask my cousin about that a few times as I'm pretty sure her daughters did that.

And another vote for sign language. My daughter knew the signs for drink, eat, more, cookie, fish, plane, please and thank you. Those last two really made impressions on the wait staff when we'd go out to eat!;-D

That's amazing! I've never seen it actually used but will have to check this out, too.

It is such an awesome language and babies are wanting to communicate so much! They love to be understood. When one of them would sign something to me and I got it, they would just smile and giggle and shake their head and say, "yes!"

I keep thinking to myself, "It must be just as hard to learn to sign--why don't they just talk?" :biggrin2:

Our best story is, when she was about 10 months old, I took her out to the beach where her dad was fishing. As we walked up, he caught a small fish. He showed it to her, then threw it back. She signed "more" as he put his bait back out there. I was starting to explain that you don't catch a fish every time you cast, and dang if he didn't hook another one. His friend wanted her to come stand by him and sign "more. =D
