Was anyone watching the women's 200 X 4 relay last night? (Penny Oleksia won her third medal...awesome.)

I don't know who the announcers on CBC were but they need to be ousted. I assume they didn't realize their mic was still on when they were saying something about the 14 year old "blew it" for her country. Then it sounded like they were mocking her as everyone was getting ready for the medal ceremony.

All I have to say about Michael Phelps is he is just amazing to watch. I think it is sweet when he kisses his baby, after winning gold.

I agree. Sometimes someone comes along who is so good it's just a privilege to be around to watch them at their peak. Phelps is one, Bolt is another. Phenomenal.
Not sure I'd let any kid of mine near that water (or me after I'd just been in it), though!

The Australian basketball team was impressive last night although they lost to the US. There is a possibility for a rematch if the US and Australia both qualify for the gold medal game. The Aussies played a much better team game last night but all of that individual talent on the US is hard to overcome. I hope they both make the gold medal game.

Is she the one they've dubbed "The Iron Lady?"

Also wanted to mention, we are all proud of Ellie Black. In the Individual all-around gymnastics she came in 5th, which is the highest a Canadian has ever gotten.

I saw some of her routines and really enjoyed watching.

Simone (can't remember her last name) from the US won the gold. She was AMAZING to watch.

Sarah Sjostrom took her third individual medal. That is the best result any swedish swimmer has ever made in the olympics. She has two relays and an individual distance left but i doubt it will be enough for a medal. She is too alone in sweden on absolute toplevel.

That's why a lot of athletes train in a different country. You need to be training with and regularly competing against the best to be the best.

Well, it finished 21-19 IIRC, but that was thanks to a late comeback and there's always two ways of looking at games like that.
I think NZ came third in the group and ended up being one of the 'lucky losers' to make the quarters, or however they work and phrase it. It wouldn't have surprised me in the least if NZ had gone on to win the thing after that, but...Fiji.
SA beat the Aussies too and they're up next for us. I just hope the same doesn't happen to the guys as happened with the women.
I was so pleased for Fiji... they really do work so hard in their rugby and have some very class players.
