How come the Academy Awards seem to dislike the Science Fiction and Supernatural/Horror genre of movies? They never seem to get a look in. Also, and I think I'm being objective, not seeing it through rose-colored glasses, but I think the standard of movies has gone down. I think they made more thought provoking and better movies back until maybe the mid-1990's, and I think I've seen a slow decline in the standard. I don't know, maybe it's me.
Maybe the thoughts they are trying to provoke these days don't interest you? I did used to watch more movies, but I think the reason I don't now isn't the quality of the movie, but just me aging in a world where I'd rather take a nap.

I haven't seen any of the movies, so can't comment on any of them.

I think you might be right that tastes have changed and what interests younger people don't interest me these days. I haven't seen any of the movies nominated so I can't comment either.

I haven't seen many of them this year . . .it's hard for me to got to the movies now. People work my nerves with their cellphones. I have them on my Netflix list, though. I did see Hidden Figures.
I absolutely friggin' love that it was WOMEN who made the difference in the space field. Black women. I wish we would have known that then.
