Artificial sweeteners have been linked to metabolic syndrome just as much as refined sugar, aka "pre" diabetes as well. Not good for someone who's trying to lose weight. My neighbor quit drinking soda, regular and diet, altogether and lost 10 pounds and didn't even address diet or calories, etc.
I love Dr. Now. He seems like such a nice dude.
Dr Now is nice He's like a good parent. He praises when praise is due but he's firm when necessary.
I used to drink a lot of Pepsi. I lost like ten pounds when I traded Pepsi for Miller Lite. I should have traded for water... I gained the ten pounds back and more

Watching My 600 lbs. Life on youtube suggested to me to a documentary called "My child can't stop eating" and it deals with Prader Willi Syndrome, something I had never heard of before. Apparently the 15th chromosome is damaged (or missing completely) before birth and causes a complete shut-down of leptin, they have no signal in their brains that tell them they're full and to stop eating. These poor kids (and adults, too) feel constantly as though they're ravenous. They could literally eat themselves until their stomach(s) rupture, because PWS apparently removes the reflex that would cause you or I to instinctively vomit if a large over-abundance of food was consumed. Many seem to be learning disabled but Katie (in the video) is just so darned cool. She's doing all she can to overcome and seems to have such a nice, sweet personality.
Here's a link if anyone is interested. I found it to be very informative, pretty sad for the affected and those who care about/for them and wish all involved in this film the best...
Good afternoon.
I found a site I can watch season 5. Is there an episode I should watch? Suggestions which episode I should watch?
I'm going to admit, I have food/eating issues so I may just bow out.
Now I'm gonna watch this one...Okay. Season 4 episode 1, Nikki. I'm approximately 10 minutes in and I'm...speechless. Genetics (parents are overweight), environment (the foods cooked and served) and the family dynamics are mind-boggling. Her brother has CP and she mentions the attention her parents give to him and her. Is he older or younger? Did her eating/weight begin when he was born? When he got sick? Is her eating an effort to get attention fromthe parents? Parents enabling her-an effort to keep her dependent? To be needed? Controlling?
First,Grace82 . Thank you for starting this thread.
I've watched three episodes and I made notes.
These clients don't have a counselor/therapist? Do any gastro-by-pass patients get counseling before/after the surgery? This is a life changing for the client, spouse, children.
Two clients expressed sadness after the operation. They both missed the joy, happiness, and comfort they used to get from eating and I don't understand. Neither mentioned food tasting differently or bad. The only difference would be the amount of food they can eat at any one time, is that correct? So is the joy, happiness, comfort from the large amount of food they ate? The overeating? Or the weight they would have from over eating? Do they want the excess weight from overeating? (IMO, these would be issues that must be addressed in counseling. Or they will pick up another addiction.) ***
The twins, Kandi and Brandi, would benefit from counseling ESPECIALLY if they each had their own counselor. Being close is great and being twins it's understandable but it can also be detrimental.
***(Because I think in a weird manner, if overeating or being overweight is the goal and no longer being able to do so...what about alcoholics and/or drug addicts? If no amount of alcohol or drugs impaired you what would happen? Turn to something else?)
(This ^^^^ is what happens when you get Sigs thinking. Stop it.)
Have a great Friday night everyone.
Peace.

So happy you like the show! Another person to discuss it with!
From the episodes I've seen only some of the clients have therapist...and it's generally the clients that have obvious mental health issues. As for the clients you noted above who missed the emotions they felt by eating....I just think they are lonely. A lot of these people were socially awkward before gaining weight...so I don't think losing the weight solves the problem of their loneliness. It seems like the clients who have the best outlook (follow-up stories) are those who find a companion......but I don't know....just throwing some things out there!

I tried to look up what episodes were What Happened To...or follow-up episodes but I couldn't find what episodes they were.(I have access to seasons 1,2, and 4 but I don't know which of these episodes are follow-up episodes )
Have a great day!
Hi!
I'm obsessing, I know.
I'm watching an episode and I'm wondering. I'm guessing the person is on Disability? They get a check from? I don't know? Social Security? Do they also get free housing? Utilities? Food stamps? I'm pretty sure they get Medicare?
But I'm seeing they also have a parent, spouse, sibs, fiancee, who take care of them 24/7? How do they pay their bills? Are the support people working? (I have a huge family but I can't see any one of my family members being able to take care me, have a household, without holding a full time and still be able to be with me 24/7)
I have soooo many questions!
EDIT: Also, some of these clients up and relocate to Texas to be closer to their doctor. I understand that. But they can just up and relocate? That takes a lot of money. And they relocate with all their support people? Again, that would cost a lot of money. Where is the money coming from?)
