Saw Okja on Netflix last night. It's about a young Korean girl's friendship with a mutated pig-like creature that's bred for slaughter (that's not a spoiler btw; it's a plot point revealed early in the film). It's directed by by Bong Joon-ho, who did the excellent Snowpiercer. There are several familiar faces in the cast, including Tilda Swinton and Stephen Yeun (for you TWD fans). The only thing I found a tad off-putting was Jake Gyllenhaal's shrill histrionics. I don't know what he was going for there but it was the only blemish on an otherwise lovely film. Definitely worth a watch.

By the Sea with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Jolie also wrote and directed. Very slow build up to a satisfying ending. She really is strikingly beautiful, and I liked the story and acting.

The Intervention. I watched this because I'm on a Jason Ritter kick. Pretty good. I like Melanie Lynskey in most everything she does. Clea Lewis wrote and directed, and I generally like her work as well.

Goodbye Christopher Robin - dramatization of the story behind Winnie The Pooh's creation and its impact on Christopher Robin Milne. Moving and rather sad.
Home Again - average romcom with the joy of an ending which is not what you would have predicted
Flatliners - horror-ish remake: dumb as a box of frogs, not unlike the original

I saw Blade Runner 2049, I love the original and this is getting fantastic reviews but I thought it kind of sucked. As did my brother and sister-in-law and was the general feeling I got from the tire-looking, frowning/mumbling crowd as we left. So I know I wasn't alone in the feeling The opening scene was great but after that I thought it was just a convoluted mess. Some bullcrap about replicant Jesus or something. It might have been a lot better if they'd trimmed it down because it really dragged and at one point just sort of turns into a nerd porno.

A few days ago I watched The Founder on Netflix (danie, I think, suggested it) and I enjoyed it much more than I expected. It has a 'cold open' where Michael Keaton's character is in a close-up giving a sales pitch and from that moment on I was involved.
This morning I watched Wind Across the Everglades (1958). An Audubon Society agent (Christopher Plummer) fights a poacher (Burl Ives) of plume birds in early 1900s Florida. I liked it. Have you seen this, muskrat? It had the feel of a lost Disney film or something like Long Hot Summer.

I actually rolled my eyes at the previews for this. Thanks for the validation. I'm not against remakes, in general, but at least improve upon the original movie. Speaking of the original, I liked it. I think it's a memorable movie and thought-provoking. Did you think it was silly?

I'm glad you liked The Founder. I loved Keaton in that role.
