I don't know what to say, my friend, except I have the highest respect for you and the decision you have made. I'm sad that it has come to this stage for you but you have great strength of character and I wish you peace and my best wishes.

You know, I don't feel scared about this at all. I really do have a peaceful feeling about it.
I'm scared, for you, for me and for everyone we know and love. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just saying that I'm going to miss this life and everything it has to offer. Everyone is different, has different opinions on this to be sure, but I'm horrified of the thought of shuffling off this mortal coil...........
I can only speak personally but my view is that we have to make the most of what we've got while we've got it and do our best along the way without causing suffering to others.
We had no memory of what came before we came into this world and we're just going back there in the end.
Nobody knows what really comes next but my belief is that it will be peaceful and free from worry and hassle.
If we believe in higher powers then we do our best to stay on the right track. If we don't believe then, in the end, if we do no harm and live a decent life we end up taking the big sleep all the same.
I always think that when someone passes it's those left behind that feel sorrow. Those that have passed are at peace.
As I said, this is just my personal opinion and I'm not saying everyone should think the same but it helps me combat my fear by looking at it the way I do.
I have also chosen to adopt thought strategies about loss and dying. It comforts me.
Very well stated, Paddy C!! Like I said, everyone has their own thoughts and opinions on the subject and for that I'm most grateful.
....I know as I have aged, I find the oddest things reminding me of my own mortality....smells, sights, songs.....if I focus on it to long, I find myself depressed because I feel I have accomplished nothing with my life...been a lacking husband and father and will leave very little mark on this world...s'why I don't dwell on it....
It's a really hard subject to deal with, for sure, but we'll all leave some little mark along the way. Yourself included, big man, and I'm sure your family would tend to disagree with you about your being 'lacking'.
I cry false my good man, the laughs you provide for me and many others shoots this right down! Not to mention being there for so many of us in our time of need, myself included!
I don't think you're alone in those thoughts. So common in fact, it has been written about.

I guarantee, your worth is known and will be even more apparent when you are gone. When we are all gone. We have left a mark on someone.
