Thanks KRF! That is truly the nicest thing anyone's said to me all day! And a poor fan is still a fan, right?! :)
And remember- Steve started out selling his stories he wrote as a kid to his Mom and his schoolmates. He wasn't in it for the money back then and he ain't in it for the money now. (but I'm sure it helps when he signs a new book contract and sees all those 00's following another number)

I've been blowing a ton of money since I got back into reading, but I don't care. I'm 22, have a job although it's nothing to brag about, don't do drugs, I'm really a homebody so why not have some sort of addiction and hobby lol. Most of my friends from school are either dead, moved away, or on dope so bad I try to never run into them, the few I still have work all the time so I don't have a big social life and I love it that way. They play PS3 on the weekends while they have free time & I read books! I have a PS3 but haven't turned it on in forever, I cant stand the thought of wasting time with that when I could be reading a good book!
That's the one thing I've always hated about being a fan and trying to get the books at good prices... I'm assuming anywhere other then public stores or maybe some sites online, he wouldn't get the money from book purchases, obviously.. I wish somehow he did, because I rarely buy them brand new from public stores unless the book itself is a new book, like Doctor Sleep for instance..

Two thoughts: 1) Look for used book stores in your area. Recently I went to two places and was stunned at the sK collection at both, and the prices were more than reasonable. Also, I've had good luck at Half.com (just don't do business there with anyone with a feedback profile under 99.5%. Note; I did not say 95% or 90.5%). The books and s/h are cheaper there than at Amazon.com or any other site that I've found; and 2) Start setting aside a percentage (10% or more) of your paycheck for savings. Soon you won't miss it because you'll be used to living on the rest. It's wonderful how quickly it adds up when you've forgotten it's happening. I wish I'd started doing that at your age.

Check out thriftbooks.com also. Great prices! Average book runs about $3.99 and that includes shipping! Make sure you check the icons to see if it's an ex-library copy of doesn't have a dustjacket. I have had good luck with my purchases so far.

Just received my copy of the trade paperback of Salem's Lot- Studies In The Horror Film that is published by Centipede Press. Looks awesome! This was the first King book I ever read and the made-for-television movie scared the crap out of me when it was first shown on TV way back in the late '70's. Looks to be quite interesting- there's interviews from cast/crew that were done back when it was made and also newer ones from 2004 up thru 2013.

Kingpricefan, about thriftbooks... When it says they are in "Acceptable" condition, but the no dustjacket mark is NOT beside the name ( meaning it should have a dustjacket ) are the books usually in ok condition or is that a shot in the dark? I've found some crazy deals on there but they all say Acceptable lol, and with the description of that when you click on the word, it might really be acceptable, and not to good.. Just thought I'd ask about your experience with the Acceptables, if you have bought any of those yet.

You should not worry about Stephen King not getting the money from your purchases - I think he would just be happy that you are reading (rather than playing PS3!) - excuse me for being so bold as to speak for him, but I am pretty sure he encourages reading over video games! :reading: to: bigkingfan91

You are exactly right!! He was never in it for the money in the first place. I actually got my dad into playing the Call Of Duty shooter games and I love reading in here where the PS3 is so he hasn't gotten to play in awhile, I'm going to have to set my room up better soon so I can stay up there and read. For about a month now working and reading is ALL I've gotten done!! That's seriously it. I go to work at 9 am so I get up at 5 and read from then until I have to get ready and go. When I get home i'll shower and eat, then read sometimes, actually most of the time, until I go to bed around 11 or 12ish. I'm still trying to get caught up on Kings recent works and right now im in the middle of Helter Skelter so I'm anxious to finish that up and get back to King. I have another book about that coming, called Restless Souls so when that arrives I'm going to be anxious as heck to get through that one and return to King. So much King work I want to read and re read, I need to just slow it down some and enjoy it all more.

I wouldn't buy a book in 'Acceptable' condition unless it's really something that you can't find anywhere else. I have had to force myself to not buy something unless it's been listed as 'Good' or better. Have you created a 'Wish List' on the sight? If not, then do it and make sure you click on both 'Notification' boxes- one is weekle and one is instant. This way, every time a book you are looking for becomes available you will be notified. Have patience- eventually whatever book you are looking for will become available in better condition than 'Acceptable'. I just today received in the mail a perfect 1st printing hardback copy of Justin Cronin's first novel 'Mary And O'Neil' and am absolutely stunned at the condition of the book! I don't think it's ever been read! I paid all of $4.07, which included shipping! There are definately alot of great deals on there. Good luck and let me know how you do with your purchases.
