I find it a bit difficult to define.... No humans with special powers, like Carrie, count. No serial killers. Just ordinary, well almost, in horrible situations. They dont have to be completely sane but at least regocnizable. Here are my picks.

1. The Lord Of The Flies - William Golding
2. Misery - Stephen King
3. Little Star-John Ajvide Lindqvist
4. Mine - Robert McCammon
5.Psycho- Robert Bloch

There are of course lots of contenders..........
What should be on? What shouldn't be on the list? Tell me.

Annie Wilkes is a serial killer which is against your rules.
So is Norman bates from Psycho, if you want people to follow your rules you need to make sure you follow your own lol. Nobody has as much of a sacred obligation to obey the law than those who make the law.

How so? To kill more than one person does not make you a serial killer. She is the worlds number one fan of Paul Sheldon and Misery Chastain but she does not go out and kill randomly or picks just middle aged men or something. She does not want to kill paul because he will write her the story she wants. Try to stop her from that and shell do anything.

...it is written that she had to leave nursing because of suspicious deaths wherever she worked....

Do you not remember the scrapbook scene? She literally keeps a record of all her kills.

That is a valid point. Misery is not about a serial killer but psycho is.. Throw in The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum instead then.
