Perfectly put,the Ghost is all over it..sounds like a pretty practiced scam artist, you also may want to check your credit report periodically over the next year or so and make sure he doesn't try to open a credit card in your name..did he have access to your SS# ? Do make sure that the detective knows you want charges pressed fully and will be available for a statement and court if needed..

He wrote the forged check out to his mother. His mother cashed it at a bank.
Wow nottie - this guy was just bad. Why would his mother cash that check? Is she shady too? Good Gan! Good advice from ghost19. If you haven't already, put a fraud alert on your social security number. Then you'll be notified if anyone, even you, tries to open accounts.
I'm so glad you are out of there. Don't be afraid - he's the one in trouble. I always get a little twitchy when I have to deal with the cops - even though I've never been in trouble, I'm always worried they'll find out about all the pot I smoked in high school. As if. Now that I know ghost19 , I try not to worry about that so much.;;D

Yes.

I honest to God, don't understand people. I am just too trusting. swear.
And I have been bitten many times, but this time I will take a stand.

Sorry, dude, Tag, You are it.
I have reached my last straw. No more.

:smile2:
Chances are this incident is the last you hear about these people, but it is a little concerning that he was working in concert with his mother, maybe she is the brains, maybe an unwitting pawn, but two crooks is always twice the trouble..hang in there, the PD will be on it..

Looked at my hair. My hair. Timmed my bangs. My hair! I actually did.

What? why? Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Said the work 'sir' at least 8 times.. Downed a glass o wine before and brushed my teeth.

 So you covered up the pot smell, got all weird like they'd take a hair sample to test for drugs and cut your own hair. Brushed your teeth so they wouldn't smell wine on a grown woman's breath, sir'd them to death and offered coffee. You WERE stoned, weren't you? That is exactly what I would do if I had to call cops to come to my house if I was robbed. I swear. Exactly that.

Or you could move to a state in the US where it's perfectly legal to smoke it......

NN - It doesn't appear the guy who stole your check was too bright since he left a trail leading right to him.

Whoever got the checks out of my office really knew what they were doing. (It's possible that someone stole them from my office and sold them to a pro) These checks were all made out slightly under $2,000.00 each. Apparently, $2,000.00 is the magic amount for the bank to call another bank and have them send them a signature card. Each check was made out to cash and signed on the back with a different stolen ID. The stolen ID was from a person that had an account in the bank (so someone had an enormous amount of info on these poor victims). They would cash my check and since I had closed my account after I found out what was going on, the check was returned and then the money deducted from the account of the victim on the back of the check.

I had 10 checks stolen and 7 were cashed successfully and all 7 of the successful ones were at Bank Of America. The 3 that failed were at different banks.

I had a lady call me from Miami to get a copy of my police report for her bank. Her name was used to cash a check. She told me that she had her purse stolen 4 years ago and had trouble like this then but no trouble for 4 years. She of course had closed her account and reopened another 4 years ago and somehow the person that signed the back of this check had her newer account number. Sounds to me like someone working in the bank is helping. Also, these were not cashed at one bank but at different Bank of America's all over South Florida. It really made my police report difficult because it happened in so many different counties.

This is horrible! I'm sorry that happened to you.

I had my purse stolen back in 2003. They managed to cash a $1,000 check and then a $2,000 at 2 different casinos in Tunica. My guess was that they knew someone who worked in the casinos (because we all do) and since they had my ID, it was easy enough. My bank never honored the checks, but I had reported my purse missing and the check numbers that were in my checkbook, so they were able to deny payment. It was still a mess and went on for a while.

I had no proof of course, but my suspicion was that a person that made a delivery to my office did this. The day before the first check hit a bank, I just happened to be all alone at my shop that day. So the office was open with me working out back for quite a bit of the day. I got a delivery that day and was out back and the delivery guy was alone in my office for a while before I got in there. The delivery just happened to be a COD. So I wrote a check and gave to the delivery guy. So, I'm thinking he could have taken the checks and with me giving him a check, he had my checking signature.

I don't really know if that's how it went down, but that scenario seemed most likely to me.
