Food Mishaps.

So, I was all excited to go the market and buy navy beans... to make the ham soup!

Well, it took so long. Soak em, rest them.. but the ham bone in.. take it out.. stir stir, cook potatoes mash them. chop onion, celery...

Put it all back in.. after about 4 hours of this.

Then fell asleep. Woke up to the smell of a burning pot and the pup throwing up because she ate the sponge.

grr.

Is it just me?

Nope. That's life. Go out and eat. Reward yourself for the effort.

The good news about "I can't cook" is that I haven't tried to burn that many things.
Slow cooker - that is the answer!

I have one where you just push a couple of buttons and it will program the cooking cycle. I just made some chili with red kidney beans. I put it on for 2 hours on low and the timer just went off (which goes to show I have been on and off this computer for two hours now!)

It did not look properly cooked so I set it again only this time for two hours on High rather than Low - once the alarm goes off it keeps the food warm for you - it's a "no brainer"

(and yes I have burned pots on the stove, too!)

"Set it and Forget it" - It has a probe too but I never use that

Funny you should mention that. Last thing I burnt was via the slow cooker; chili. It would've been really good. The memory hurts...

You burn the crockpot by starting cooking at a time when you're bound to be asleep hours after it switches to Warm mode.
I always thought it would be nice to put in on, on low, for about 8 hours just as you are leaving the house for work in the morning. Still haven't gotten around to getting that organized yet, but there is always hope for the future.
