I knew (HOPED!) I was getting one because I had one wrapped up to give to my brother--my mum did this thing when we were little, she'd wrap a small gift for the birthday kid to give to the non-birthday child--anyway, I had my brother's Paddington Bear key-ring wrapped up and under my pillow and I absolutely could not sleep that night because I sooooooo hoped I was right and that he would have a matching one for me under his pillow to give me in the morning.

I saw a pic earlier on eBay of the Betsy McCall's Puppy I still have...got it for my first birthday, a Tuesday's child, 1:22 in the afternoon I arrive here. Heh! Was looking at this Baby's First Diary that Ma started years ago and maintained for about eight years. I think by eight most mothers want to strangle their little boys. We fall out of favor. Anyway, I looked again just now and I can't find it! Was a black dachshund, red nose. Betsy McCall...of the magazine fame I think...was five years old in 1951? Had items named after her...paper dolls other stuff.
Also had an elephant, a skunk, and I recall a TV Horse...had a vinyl mid-section, fur for legs and head. Sister had this big whopping teddy bear with the same configuration, vinyl middle, fur arms and legs. Used to wrestle with it and it always got the best of me. Horse refused to acknowledge me. The puppy had a red ribbon around its neck, but the ribbon is gone and the fur has started to leave the body around the seams.

LOL ... I was being cheeky .... but it would have crossed my mind as a kid ....

Close...mine was black, all black, legs were shorter...I could take a pic of it if I knew how to put it on here. Had a red nose...as I recall...the nose has gone missing. Put up some missing nose posters to no avail, alas. And mine has green eyes.

took pix, have it on desktop...lost in the jungle. neither of those icons to the right of the smiley face work. I recall doing images on a previous incarnation of the board...no go here.
don't use the pix icon .... go to bottom right .... where it says .... "post reply" .... then "preview" then... "upload a file" .... go to that tab and upload your pix off desktop !!!
