Well, you have your hearing or trial. You don't like the results. You get a certain amount of time to ask for a different result. That gets denied, and you get a certain amount of time to file an appeal. Then you get a certain amount of time to say what you want in your record to send to the appellate court. Of course, the transcript of the hearing or trial is included, and there's a certain amount of time for that to get done. And I rather imagine that in any or all of these steps, you can ask for an extension of time.
So yeah, I can where there would be a couple dozen or so hearings done before they found out the awful truth.
