Phantasm was one of the horror movies I remember from my childhood. Watching my father's VHS copy late at night and getting nightmares. I can't go to a cemetery without thinking about this film to this day.

I remember watching the sequels and trying to figure out what the hell it was all about. Don't think I ever quite got it, but I enjoyed the movies. The first one was the best, though. I enjoyed watching Angus Scrimm just do his thing.

So sad to hear of his passing.

Damn. Strange to think of him in a mortuary for real now. And yes, giant he was, hence "the tall man". The first movie was choppy with sometimes stilted dialogue and shoestring special effects but damn it was brilliant. Most awesome. It captured a mood and the time period so well. And the ball is still the best most evil device ever conceived. Angus was great at mysterious evil. The movie didn't even have to make perfect sense because it managed to achieve the level of actual nightmare. I'm hearing the music in my head now and the word... "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY!"

Scrimm will appear in Coscarelli’s fifth Phantasm film, which bears the subtitle Ravager. The film will be released later this year. Additionally, J.J. Abrams is hard at work creating a 4K restoration of the original Phantasm.

....he was one of my favorite movie boogeymen.....and though I was never gaunt, the height kinda made feel closer to the actor....if that makes any kind of dimwitted sense....

The most memorable part of the first Phantasm movie is when Jody is looking at his parents' name plaque, and a hand suddenly appearing:

"The funeral is about to start........ Sir...!"

Made me jump as as much as it did Jody, that's for sure..! :p

Seriously, such sad news about his passing. :(
