TV legend Ann B. Davis who played Alice on "The Brady Bunch" has died ... TMZ has learned.

According to the couple she lived with in Texas ... Ann fell in her bathroom early this morning and hit her head causing grave damage. We're told she never regained consciousness.

Her roommate says Davis had been pretty healthy for an 88-year old woman -- and her death was a total shock. In fact, she even walked downstairs to say goodnight before going to bed.

Davis played the housekeeper Alice Nelson for the entire original run of "The Brady Bunch" from 1969 to 1974. She also filled the role for countless other TV movies and reunions. She last played Alice for 5 episodes of "The Bradys" in 1990.

We're told Ann was very close to some members of the church she attended in Texas -- and they are currently planning funeral arrangements.

I was upset when I heard that John Ritter died, because he was only in his 50's when it happened, and I remember John Ritter. I don't really remember Anne B. Davis. I saw re-runs of the Brady Bunch. I didn't watch it while it was airing. I didn't start doing that until after 1975 and Happy Days was the only show I was allowed to watch. Then later, Threes Company. My mom thought Three's Company was too racy for us until we were over 12. She was really strict, even though she didn't think she was compared to my grandma.
But my grandma couldn't stand Elvis Presley or the Beatles. She didn't like that Elvis showed his hips on national TV. My mom liked it, because she was a teenager then.

What would Carol have done without her?
Her house would be filthy and no one would have ever eaten a decent meal. All hail Alice! I have often wished to have household help just like her - as long as her drill sergeant sister doesn't take over. Rest in peace Ann B Davis.
She was quite pretty once upon a time.
