I used to watch that with my grandma :) Ironsides, The Rockford Files, and Mannix, in that order. And if I stayed up late enough, Love, American Style :D
...I met and interviewed Mike Connors, star of Mannix MANY moons ago, when I was but a little Gnt in the radio biz...I recall he was quite underwhelmed with my budding interviewing skills, and I can't blame him coz I pretty well stunk at questioning back then...

Andy my extremely unusual husband (and chef) says he can smell and taste Canola oil) - the guy is from another planet, I swear!

I think he would prefer the old solid Crisco lard they used to melt down in the old days xD

We use canola or olive oil (depending on what works best for the recipe) and good old butter. SOMETIMES shortening (biscuits and a few cookies). I listened to a pretty interesting interview on NPR lately, though, where the interviewee (a food scientist and nutritionist) made some claims that we cheat our bodies when we cut animal fats from our diets. Not that we should be eating a lot of any fat, but her claim (which seemed to be backed up by her numbers/studies) was that animal fats contain micronutrients which our bodies have evolved to need and which vegetable/seed oils cannot provide. I found it interesting, anyway :) I'm certainly not a scientist, but I can say that we used to use margarine, thinking it was better for us than butter, but when we cut it out and went back to butter food not only tasted better but was more satisfying in smaller proportions.
