Maybe for the same reason I keep seeing these 'Jackie Chan is dead' links, then in abject terror, when I click one I get a "You're computer has been infected!" message, and they want a credit card number! Try "googling" before jumping to a conclusion. Facebook is starting to get some of those too.

Dear sweet Mr. Cranky, folks just get bored and then try to drum up excitement. Killing people (and pets, I suppose) off and then subsequently bringing them back from the dead is the work of uninspired fan fiction artists.
