My knee jerk reaction to the thread title is to answer that Shawshank is probably the best, but that my favorite is Green Mile. But then I remember Needful Things, Misery, Dolores Claiborne, The Mist, 1408, The Langoliers, and I'm not so sure how to answer.

I notice a lot of praise for Storm of the Century. Need to see that one. Haven't found it available in a region 2 edition. Only region 1 which doesn't play on my DVD. Sigh....

Best adaption I'd say was Misery.

Stand By Me, Carrie, the 1979 'Salem's Lot and The Dead Zone are all pretty good as well. I like the Kubrick version of The Shining (I treat it as a separate entity from the novel) and I like Carpenter's Christine.
