I don't know about that. Maybe "Blessed is he who expects nothing in return". Just give. Give because it's good for you. Lavish love, be a font of peace and joy. It'll come back to you. You know that. I wouldn't wish what I went through for months and months on anyone. BUT I've learned so much. And I have a different conversation in my head these days. "You are strong, your intentions are good. Look at how far you've come."

Have you ever heard Sarah McLachlan's song Fumbling Towards Ecstasy? That's me. I'm not frightened anymore.

Nice saying that does not mean very much. You always expect something. It could be more or less or even a negative but the Expectations are there. No way around it. You wouldnt be a person if it Wasnt, more of a computer thingie. Life is always gonna have its ups and down, its disappointment and its opposite. That partly what makes life interesting to live.

Hi Sigmund,

I don't know why but that reminds me of that quote by Kipling about losing at gambling. From 'A Fathers advice to a Son'

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

You know, sometimes when you cite poetry on the site i feel mad about not being able to cite some of the really great swedish poetry that there is. Poetry loss so much in translation and that good a translater i am not that i can capture the rhythm and beauty in another language.

I had to think about this for a while.

Blessed? Never being disappointed means you never sought to achieve. That's not so good.

Now, in certain arenas, this works. Charity work. You do it for the innate value of it, not the money or acclaim.

But if you seek to advance yourself, or the people close to you, or the human species, you'll be disappointed sooner or later, and that's part of the process and necessary for moving forward. You don't learn as much from successes as you do from failures.
