I use anything and everything I can get my hands on when a scrap of paper is not handy. I've used tiny branches, locks of hair, cigarette lighter, thread, and page number memory (surprisingly this works most times if I get back to the book within 24 hours). Sometimes I'll judge the thickness of where I am and just do a mental 'scan and find' when I pick it up again.

This is me, too! Even the page-number part! What I currently am using in my book at work is a joker from an old deck of cards. ;-D

Do you guys remember when we made a ton of bookmarks for SK for his birthday one year? Moderator has he finally lost/permanently marked a spot with enough of them that we should do that again?

As for me, I'm a book wrecker. I dog-ear and crack spines. And read in the bath tub, and carry books in my purse/diaper bag so the pages get all bent. And worse.....

Now I do most of my reading on the Kindle, I don't know what book lovers think is worse?
You are not alone!! If thats a comfort.... I wear books out. I used to dogear them but have managed to stop that but i do but them down on the side i'm in (not good for the spine i'm certain). I do use bookmarks but they, at least for me, have an ability to not be around when i need them. I also use, most frequently i think, the rather unsure method of remembering the page i'm on. As a result i sometimes even forget i have started a book! And i love to read in the tub! A tub is not complete without a book to read while you soak. I can only say one thing in my defense, i try to treat them nicely, i dont read paperpacks as if they were newspapers (bend one half so much that it touches the back of the other half) which is a sure way of destroying them.
