....oooo, a K & N cold air intake...got one on the Cherokee, but haven't noticed much difference, other than a little low end "oomph"....

You might not like a Ford, but I've had this car for 11 or 12 years now and she's been a good car. Gets thru snow, rain and sleet without a slip. Can go all the way down to 10 mph in 3rd gear without a hiccup. By the way, my nephew has the same car as you do (his is blue) and just last year he had to replace the entire engine because of something to do with the valves or something and there's no way to fix the suckers when this problem happens. Just giving you a heads-up. He drives like an old lady, never even takes it out on the freeway, so it isn't his driving that caused it. It seems to be a problem with these types of engines. Oh, ironically, he got it cheap from the owner after someone bashed in the back end and had it repaired.
Scott, my car literally 'screams' when I jump on it on the road. I can hear the intake sucking in all that fresh air! It added at least 2 more HP (and better MPG) to it after I installed it.
The rotary engine design is what Mazda drivers love and hate the most about their cars.

Here's your nephew's problem--RX-8s have to be driven like you stole em. If he's not driving it up to its potential, at least some of the time, the engine does not like it, and balks. The rotary was meant to be driven hard hard hard. I have talked to a LOT of people about this, and it's the same every time--you can't drive it slowly over time. My car is 8 years old and runs like a charm.

Yea, I know what you mean, I've always been scratching my head when it comes to my nephews driving habits. He really does drive like an 80 year old woman....

...if mine weren't lifted six inches and with big tires the mpg would likely be better but like I said the acceleration is better...

I can out accelerate just about anything on the road. Except for Porches, Corvettes, and Shelby Mustangs. Everyone else usually just sees my taillights!
