I believe one of the reasons why King is probably in the top ten of best-selling fiction writers is that he appeals not only to the *constant reader* (as he calls his readers) but also to people who normally wouldn't read. One of my sons will read a SK novel and probably nothing beyond that although another son started with SK and has branched out to other fiction. I also believe SK would certainly encourage people to read other authors. Oops I was wrong about King being in the top ten! At first, I had difficulty believing the validity of this list! (but the data is there to support it.) I cannot believe that SK is behind Dean Koontz! Although Koontz has twenty-one more books than King, but still...:umm:

....Koontz supplemented his "production" with a slew of pulp novels back in the day....as far as those recorded in his current lexicon, he and King are fairly comparable.....
