Clem Kadiddlehopper was my favorite of Red’s characters.
Was Red Skelton the guy who used to sweep up the spotlight at the end of the show, or am I thinking of somebody else?

I don't think there was ever a better mother-in-law character than this one. 
Am I correct in remembering that Gomez and Morticia were the first married couple to be shown on TV in bed together . . . or was that Mike and Carol Brady?
For some reason I think that was Carol Burnett. I remember Red ending the shows with "Good night and may God bless."

I'm pretty sure Red Skelton did do it as I vaguely remember that from watching the show but from what I could find Emmett Kelly (who was Red Skelton's lifelong friend) may have also been part of it...or maybe inspired the routine? Not clear.
