Do you have or have you ever had the book "Rage"? Getting a copy, especially over in the UK is pretty tough. Although, weirdly enough, the novel itself is collected in a collection called "The Bachman Books."
Got it when it first came out in sweden. Read it in swedish first, then bought the english copy but this was before the schoolshooting that made steve take it back so it was no problem to get a copy. I really like it.
It's been omitted from more recent printings.
Some of it is available online, like the first few chapters as a sample. It is really good from what I have heard, wish Steve would re-puplish it.

I really dont get it. Surely Steve must know that his fans are going to get it one way or another. Not publishing the work is simply forcing his fans to pay exuberant prices to own it, but anyway ...

The maxi pad thing is not a bad idea if you stuck it inside a cloth face mask where no one saw it. It would be a great filter. But not just slapped on your face like that. I mean, it still works and might save your life but I'd bust out laughing if I saw someone with a maxi pad on their face. And then I would tell them "good job!"
