Dark Tower Series Question

As some of you know I have not yet read these books. My plan is to start after finishing Revival. You guys have me motivated!
I was going to read them in order of release date but a friend of mine said that he thinks Wind Through the Keyhole is actually supposed to be in between books 4-5 or 3-4(he wasn't sure of the order).
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I stick to release date or shuffle some around?

Doesn't really matter in terms of plot as it's a stand-alone book. If you want to follow the ka-tet as they made their progression to the tower, you could read it between books 4 and 5 but many people who have read the series feel reading it after the 7th book is preferable.

Either way is good. It's all about the journey.
TWTTK is between 4 and 5/ know as 4.5.
Those that read the books as published, myself included, look as Keyhole as revisiting old family friends. Think of it as a holiday reunion. It is a stand alone book, so either choice is fine.

Personally, I read it after Wizard and Glass, as Ms. Mod perfectly said, to follow the ka-tet's journey chronologically within the time in the series.

As King has said, it is one long novel and I think it should be read as such. When the final three volumes were announced I went back a started again and just being able to ensconce myself in that amazing land over a period of months with only short breaks between books was an ideal experience.

I read it between 4 & 5 worked ok for me

Me, too! I knew nothing at all about the DT series, but saw that Stephen King had a book out called The Wind Through the Keyhole so I bought it on vacation in the States.

Then I read DT 1 through 3 and on Dark Tower IV Wizard and Glass I put it down - sheesh! Thanks for reminding me - I need to pick this one up again and keep it by my bedside.
