And the mailbox says Kil U.
That was a great detail. Again, clever. The R and E missing from KILRUE. I wondered the same thing about his relinquishing his coat. I agree with everything you said except for the last part. If he was wanting to experience the feeling of true terror I think it was subconscious. I'm going to read it again, though, so maybe I will be clued into that interpretation. I think you're onto something there.

Oh, I don't think he went into all this thinking, "sh*t is going down and they are going to gut me like a fish."

I do think he did these things subconsciously, because he knew all the horror tropes. He knew them all. Every single thing about this guy was screaming to him, but his curiosity was overwhelming his common sense. He ignored every single warning sign that he spent a lifetime-- a career -- reading about.

And there at the end when he comes down the stairs with the excuse he needs to go to his car to get the release form that doesn't exist, he says at first, he doesn't go for the front door and starts wandering through the house. He also says he is aware he is going deeper into the house and he questions himself, why? Why am I going deeper into this house instead of making my escape?

Something about the horror of the situation is fascinating him, pulling him in.

JMO of course.

No, I think you are right on the money. I thought the same thing at that point. Eddie doesn't know why he's walking further into this strange, crooked house but Hill has given us enough of a portrait of Eddie that, like you said, the reader suspects they know why.

Sure. Let's see if we can get a volunteer.
Spidey, if you have a story you'd like to choose, that'd be great. If not, I'll nominate morgan.

If morgan is ready after her move, It would be great for her to pick the next one.
Would love to participate, but will be moving for a while. Ongoing process because of working around two people's schedules. Rain check?

....as I expected from this group-all have made excellent points...all I will add is-I chuckled through the whole thing....I can see that maniacal grin on Joe's face as he throws every horror stereotype into the stew and then stirs it up a bit....he has inherited his father's genius and does indeed excel in some ways over dad....I haven't been disappointed with anything he's done, except The Fireman......to much like Steve and WAY to many "Easter eggs"......

I got you, boo. :heheh:

Moving can drain the life out of anyone, been there done that. When you get settled, maybe you can pick another Hill story (I'm trying to savor each story and not race through them). Spidey has chosen "The Cape" and I am going to start it tonight.

I am way late with this story, say sorry. I just read it today. And again, did not remember it at all.

Everyone has had great comments. I totally missed the KIL U thing. I read it, it just did not click.

Like with horror movies, I was asking him in my head WHY are you exploring this house? No! The door other way!

Great story.
