great side note.I missed commenting on this story. It is a great little story. Everything going along, seeming normal and then boom! I had the whole crew from Rob Zombie's movies, House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects in my head as the ones running the circus.
The first time I read this story was a few years ago. I was on my way out the door to pick up one of the kids for a dentist appointment. We had recently replaced the doorknob on our front door and the "lock" position of the little doohickey was the opposite of the previous knob. Plus, the inside knob turns freely even when locked, but the outside knob does not....I was not used to these changes yet and locked myself out of the house.
Had my purse and my phone but no keys. So had to call the dentist office, then the school, and then oldest son. Sat down on the deck steps and read this story on my phone while waiting on son to come unlock the door with his key. It was springtime and not cold, at least!
Just a little side note, nothing to do with the story except that memory of being locked out of my house will always be tied to reading it.
