I know that King talks about red spiders in the barn where he was sent for punishment. But the evil character in IT is, at the end, in the form of a spider and Mordred is "spider boy". Now I am not a big fan of the eight legged beings who like to live in dark places and can grow to amazing size and can be deadly but why make the ultimate evil characters in two books in the shape of a spider?

You say "spider complex" like that's a bad thing.

My friend (who is an avid SK reader) and I have always laughed about his obsession with spiders. We find them silly as giant protagonists. The end of It was a letdown for us both.
To add to this, I guess I just find any kind of giant animal or insect protagonist pretty laughable. I think this movie that I saw as a kid in the theater is what did it (although at the time I was very excited to see it).

Did I ever mention "Death Wish" is one of my all time favorite movies? :)

I don't kill them, I release them back into the wild. But, yeah, that would probably be my job. Hasn't come up in the last 27 years, though. ;-D
I would like to be a fly on the wall seeing how you go about releasing them back into the wild. I imagine it is quite the production. :)

What a memory! I saw this at the Fort Quappelle, Saskatchewan drive-in theatre when I was about 6 years old. It was a double-bill; Elvis' 'Stay Away Joe' and 'Night of the Lepus'. Odd mix of a double bill but I became an Elvis fan that day. I remember being scared while watching the Lepus film but don't remember too much about it except for how they solved the problem at the end. Thx, mal.
