I'm largely a skeptic, but that that photo gets creepier every time I see it. The dress isn't a bag of rags or a big washcloth. It's something else. I saw the face immediately. It doesn't scare me so much, but it makes me want to run outside & yell, "Go away & get the hell out of here! I've got holy water!!!"
If you ever get the chance to visit Charleston, be sure to tour the Old City Jail. It was very creepy, but also the history of the place is fascinating. I'd also recommend Eric Lavender's Pirate Tour. I didn't see any weird stuff, but again, the history is fascinating.

Here's my opinion. Take it as you will.

Some folks have more developed or talented senses than others. There are people that I know who can take a bite of a dish and tell you the spices that went into it. Most people can maybe pick out a strong one, like cinnamon, but otherwise would just be able to say the dish tastes good. Some folks can hear a language or a piece of music and pick it up and/or perform it beautifully with little effort. Some folks can study for years to achieve an adequate level of proficiency. I believe this holds for our "sixth" sense. Some folks can and do see things that others can or won't allow themselves to.

Here's a quote from our gracious host's short story "1408":

"I'm not calling you a liar," he said, "but, Mr. Enslin, you don't believe. Ghosts rarely appear to those who don't believe in them, and when they do, they are rarely seen. Why, Eugene Rilsby could have bowled his severed head all the way down the front hall of his home, and you wouldn't have heard a thing!"

Haha that's very cute, but, that is a story of course, are we supposed to accept that as Gospel for the viewing of ghosts? Does Stephen believe in ghosts? And if he does, does that make his belief more credible than anyone who doesn't? Playing a little devil's advocate here..

I believe there is strange stuff that can't be explained just by science. My mother said she saw her mother's ghost and I got contacted by a dead person. Witchcraft and the occult has been going on since humans walk this earth and that wouldn't occur unless there's something to it.

Yes, I know it's from a story, but I felt it fit my statement (that you didn't quote) quite nicely .

This thread has been feeling like a mine-field for the last few pages. :biggrin2:

(Y'know, [addressing everyone] it is okay to believe in the unknown. Just as it is okay to not believe in the unproven. None of this has to be personal. )

It's very interesting though... carry on. Who else has "ever had anything weird happen to you"?
(I could tell a story or two, but I might lose my moderator hat, or at the very least... my halo.)

This. And if it does continue along those lines, the thread will be closed.
