Of course, we know Gifford from Monday Night Football, mostly as a sounding board for Howard Cossell and Don Meredith (and later, Fran Tarkenton), but the thing I recall fondest about Frank Gifford doesn't have much to do with Frank Gifford at all.
It's my father, telling me how great he was on the field. Back in the day, there were no New England Patriots, and people who lived where we did rooted for the Giants.
I miss that, I'm not ashamed to say.
