I have mine already planned in my head.

I'm being brought into the crematorium to Portsmouth by Mike Oldfield and then Live Forever by Oasis played during the service.

Finally, people will file out past my coffin to this (I'm deadly serious).

I have the funeral planned out. I just need to get it done. (By that, I mean get it recorded. Believe me, I'm not in a hurry to have it happen.)

Santana's "Jungle Strut" to a photo montage.

Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky" off the "A Delicate Sound of Thunder" album midway through.
(The last singer about brings tears to my eyes.)

The crowd (all three of them) file out to Earth Wind & Fire's "Fantasy," and I hope they get a smile from the last verse:

It's your day, shining day, all your dreams come true
As you glide, in your stride with the wind, as you fly away
Give a smile, from your lips, and say
I am free, yes I'm free, now I'm on my way

Heh. Probably not this, but it'd be funny.
I want a humourous tombstone, that's for sure.

Here lies Cappy,
1999-2080
The b*stard is dead. Good riddance.

1999? Do you realize that all you have to do is make it to 101 years old to live in 3 different centuries? Then your tombstone could say, "I pissed people off in 3 centuries" ;-D

Well, being all Catholic, I'll have to say for the actual funeral Mass: Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone), Ave Maria, and Eagles Wings for sure.
For the after party, my musician friend has put together a rendition of Simple Mind's "Don't You Forget About Me" that just blows me away. And I want Alison Krause, or someone like her to play the banjo and sing "I'll Fly Away" O Brother Where Art Thou - style.

Amazing Grace is an Anglican song. I realize Anglicans are Catholics without a Pope. Just had to toss that in there. I personally love the cliche-but-oh-so-right Amazing Grace played well on a bagpipe. I don't get tired of that one.

You know, before I converted, I'd grown up hearing a totally different version of Amazing Grace - are we talking about the same Amazing Grace? I like the other version as well, but I like "My Chains are gone".
They played the other (not Catholic version) of Amazing Grace on bagpipes at my dad's funeral - very touching and cool, I loved how you could feel the music in the ground beneath your feet.

I did not know the Anglicans are Catholics without a Pope.

Anglicans and Episcopalians come from King Henry VIII's break with the Catholic church. Instead of 7 sacraments, though, they only recognize 2. In England, Queen Elizabeth is head of the Anglican church. Episcopalians are in the US, and I'm not sure who the head of the church is--maybe there isn't a single leader? There is High Episcopalian, in which the service is pretty much exactly like a Mass, and Low Episcopalian, in which the service is closer to a Methodist service.

I only know one version of Amazing Grace, though. The version in our missal is exactly the same as I've heard my whole life. I wonder how yours is different, or how the one you grew up with is different?
