Good evening!

A supermarket commercial has people ... talking?

Here. I'll post the commercial. You watch it and tell us what you think.

From what I've read

Some people think it's cool 'cause it makes you think and be more willing to visit your parent(s) at Christmas time.

Some people think it's wrong 'cause Grandpa was manipulative and inspiring guilt in his adult children.

What do YOU think?

Thank you!

I bawled my eyes out. It's pretty harsh to be mad at "Grandpa." His children are more to blame than he is.

I would NEVER let my mother be alone like that. My dream is to move out of this state, but I won't because I'm the one who makes sure my mom is okay. That is the #1 priority - always.

I think Grandpa was very smart to do what he did.
He did it for himself, but also to bring his children together.
What a reminder for us to do what's really meaningful and what makes others happy, instead of letting our lives take over and keep us from our loved ones.

It certainly is powerful, but probably works better as message than it would in actuality. I don't know how comfortable I am with the idea of people as playthings, even in service to the greater good.

But the sad truth is that we sometimes get caught up believing that there will always be time to say or do (or undo) the things that are truly most important to us; or to understand that the most important things are rarely easy things. Do not squander opportunities to show those you care about how you feel. No matter how many chances you get, they will be one too few. It is life's only certainty.

I cant be angry with him. It would never occur to me to let my Mother celebrate christmas alone . I would consider that cruel of me. This year Will be the first christmas without her. It Will be strange.

Add me to the tears camp. I would have NEVER left my mom alone (or my dad had he outlived my mother). EVER. No matter how damn "inconvenient" I would feel the effort would be, I made sure till the day she died that she never celebrated anything important alone.

It was a pretty harsh way for grandpa to get them there, and as Morgan said, it says more about those kids than grandpa. He just wanted to be with his family. He loves his family.

I like the commercial as well.
But I do not understand why all kids never took the time to celebrate Christmas with him. One each year would have been lovely.

It was a pretty good commercial.

But why didn't they just all chip in and bring Grandpa to their place? Speaking as a grandpa, that would've been very satisfactory.

That's what I would have done. A flight for one isn't that expensive.

Tears - definitely tears for sure. A very touching commercial.

Of course in real life no one would fake their own death to get the family all together, so no use taking it literally. The makers of the commercial just wanted to illustrate a point.

(Don't take family for granted, as it might be too late when you finally find the time to visit).
