I spent this year's Mother's Day at my son's old friend's wake.
It felt like a nightmare and I thought my heart would break
At the pictures of the boy who used to hang around...
Ate and slept here. Yet, today, they'll lay him in the ground.

He was such a lovely boy; so funny but so sweet.
Taught our son to play guitar and how to keep a beat.
I can still remember them - in triumph on the stage.
Such a talent gone from us at far too young an age.

Both my sons attended with me and they made me proud
As we stood in line and waited with the massive crowd
Come to say goodbye and offer useless sympathy
And, like all but Adam's mom, thanked God she wasn't me.
So sorry to hear this news. A candle will be lit for Adam. Thoughts and prayers for the family. (((MrsSmeej)))

So, so sad... I'm very sorry for this loss.

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers, dear friends. You're very kind.
I will pass them on in hopes his family will find
Solace... But, I feel I owe you an apology;
What was once a happy thread turned sad because of me.
No apology, MrsSmeej We are family here. We share the good and bad. You are part of this family!!

Lovely tribute and beautifully stated, MrsSmee. My belated condolences on returning to this thread.

Esther Forbes wrote about the tragedy of a youthful death: "All the years of their maturity. All the children they never live to have. The serenity of old age. To die so young is more than merely dying; it is to lose so large a part of life."

You're right: Sympathy is useless, in that it cannot replace what has been lost. But still, there is a component of our humanity that compels us to stand with the bereaved and say, "Old friend, I'm sorry." And for whatever comfort that may bring, it's not a bad thing.

Old friend, I'm sorry.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread so I'll use this old one from last year

Hoping everyone had a good Mother's Day this past weekend!

I got five bath bombs from Lush thanks to Josh, plus a nice card. We had ke-babs, barbecued outside (first BBQ of the year!)

Did anyone else celebrate? What did you get or give?

We celebrated all weekend. I had the littles over on Friday night. RJ and Sage spent the night, Spencer was here just for the evening. Then Saturday we all met up at Ali's track meet. Scott was on nights but took Sat night off so he could go to the meet, then he grilled me supper that night. Sunday was quiet since he had to go back to work that night but we all needed a quiet day!

I got a new maple tree for the back yard, some cedar shrubs and a new swing! Trees are planted, Scott is putting my swing together later today. So you know where I will be this evening! :applause:

Where did you put your cedar shrubs?

Andy put six in a row out front a few years back - they are so big now! They grow fast

Glad you had a good weekend :star::encouragement:

I saw my first bee yesterday while doing yard work so it must be spring at last!

We put them in next to our little patio in the back yard. We are hoping they will act as a privacy screen from the neighbor's, we don't have a fence. We only put 2 in so far, but if they do well, I'd like to do a whole row of them down that side of the house.
