Franklin Pierce refused to swear his oath of office when he became the 14th president of the U.S., opting instead to "affirm" his oath, reportedly due to a crisis of faith in the aftermath of the death of his son.

George Washington is the only American president to be unanimously elected.

The Presidential election of 1800 between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson was one of only two elections that resulted in the House of Representatives deciding who would be President of the United States. It was also the only time where there was a tie for President in the Electoral College. Although it wasn't a tie, the House of Representatives also had to decide the President in the election of 1824, between Adams son John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson, when no candidate reached the required majority of electoral votes.

Did you know that Andrew Jackson was involved in up to 100 duels. He took a bullet in the chest but survived 1806 and a bullet in the arm 1813. Most duels were fought to defend his wifes rachels honour.
She unknowingly was a bigamist for a few years. She married Andrew Jackson believing her first husband had gotten a divorce but later discovered they weren't really married, even though they had already lived together as man and wife for six years. She got a divorce (for real, this time :smile2:) and they got married again. When Jackson was running for president, the other party accused his wife all over again of being a bigamist, even though by that point they had been legally married for twenty-four years. Historians believe that the smear campaign led to her sudden death.

And they say history is boring! No way!!!!!
