Hey Folks,

we do not have a spot for the healthy topics. We celebrate bacon but no veggies. I think it would be fun to do so. A girl needs some veggies and fruits now and then.

I started to do some sports (fitness) a couple of month ago. I am still eating pizza but I am also able to run for the bus. etc. so let's get this started.

Good for you!

I find that when I follow the Weight Watchers program (basically just good healthy food) I do feel better overall. Plus I need to get more motivated to go to the Fitness Centre where I work.

It's open 24/7 and the price is very reasonable - it comes out of my pay every month and is about $20 a month.

I think you really need to plan ahead for stuff like that fruit bowl above - buy the fruit/veggies, cut them up, have them on hand etc.

By the end of the day I feel so tired from just sitting all day at work that I want to go home and sleep!

I am not having a fruit bowl on a regular basis either it's just a nice picture. I am happy if I find the motivation to cut an apple for me to eat.
I am doing online fitness courses. You chose the days were you do the course in advance. So no "today i gonne skip it."
And of course it is easier to do as a student without a full time job and children.
But when you do fitness ones or twice a week you already doing more then many other. :strut:

I really don't have much of an excuse to skip the gym, other than wanting to get home earlier.

When you get to be my age, you start to realize that if you don't do something, your health is going to be adversely affected.

(there is hypertension, poor circulation, etc.) and if you start to gain enough weight and continue to be inactive, plus eating all the wrong foods you have a greater chance of getting diabetes type 2.

I wish I had a partner who would want to work out with me and be like my "gym buddy". I was actually going to start a program something like "Herbal Magic" but when I found out the cost I told them I would think about it, but never went back.

What do you think is the solution to this inertia?

Do not be to hard on yourself. Make it happen ones a week like every Monday. And do something at home ones or twice a week too. This could work since it seems that you do not like the gym very much. Go for a walk or go swimming.

I play floorball once a week. I'm afraid thats all. For me it got to be fun, not just healthy, and a lot of exircise is boring. Like running. But when you have a meaning with it, aka "get the darn ball into the net", it is fun. And the same goes for healthy foods, i just lack the selfdiscipline. Admiring you for having it though. And a pizza now and then is so good.....

Oh I DO like the gym! (it is just too easy to take off at 3 p.m. and drive home). So if I can just make it a habit to go directly to the gym right after work (say by 3:15 p.m. once I log off, get my gym shoes, etc.) then I think I would be okay.

Thanks for the tips!
I also have a recumbent bike in my living room so I can go on that, as it is right kitty corner to the TV :grinning:

We have TVs on the machines downstairs in the gym at work - treadmills, elliptic trainers, etc. So I can do 30 minutes on one of those then do the weight training part.

You're right - it has to be fun - that helps a lot.

Running to me is fun--time to think, to be outside, to push myself to be better. Never boring.
I used to run when I was in the military - every day at lunch time - I would go about 5 km and it was the best part of my day. They would allow me time to go change, run, then shower. I would just eat at my desk afterwards.

My Sargent one time (who I did not really like) gave me a bit of a hassle about it - asking what would people think of seeing me eating in the office. This is from a woman who would take five or six 20 minute smoke breaks per day.

Oh dear - now that sounds catty. It is weird but I always preferred male bosses (maybe I am a bit of a closet sexist in that regard)

I alternate days on the stationary bike and treadmill, drink lots of water, keep the fried food to a minimum, bypass McDonalds on the way home and let go of the emotional things around me that aren't mine to carry. I found the last one is helping me take on the ones before it. An apple a day, a compliment a day... for me and others, thinking positively. A daily struggle, but a struggle worth undertaking. Best of luck in whatever you guys do to fight the good fight!!!

I walk a lot. That's about it. I consider that exercise because all that I'm trying to lose are around 1 to 5 pounds. I weigh myself monthly and this month i gained 4 pounds, so I have to lose those, plus 5 more. My goal is to lose 5 pounds per month and I've been achieving that for the past 8 months but messed up in the past month.
