I am really trying to get back into some kind of disciplined routine. Hopefully this thread will inspire me. I have had bad knees all of my life and am a little bit limited on what I can do. Running is out. Doctor told me if someone is chasing me, to just fall down.

My right knee is also a little troubelmaker. Maybe try pilates it's not as boring as yoga (sorry if you like it )but you do not have to jump etc.

I was actually going to start a program something like "Herbal Magic" but when I found out the cost I told them I would think about it, but never went back.

What do you think is the solution to this inertia?

Urgh, seriously do not even consider wasting money on weight loss products...all you need is realistic healthy eating and moderate exercise. That doesn't mean going crazy in the gym, or joining exercise classes, just do something you enjoy that is sustainable and increases your heart rate. For example I love walking, and do it very fast. You could multi-task and use that exercise bike whilst watching tv...even 10-minutes a day and gradually building it up will increase your tolerance levels. You really are likely to feel less sluggish and more motivated to move when you start exercising and releasing those feel good endorphins.

As for diet; I love food far too much to ever deprive myself of anything!! It's just about moderation and looking at what you consume on a daily basis. Small changes to how food is prepared can make a huge difference in the calorific/fat content. PS; I am speaking as a girl who has been overweight and would still like to lose a few pounds so hope I don't sound like I'm preaching...I just believe being realistic and everything in moderation is what works in the long term. Weight loss products are a quick/short term fix, whereas learning about real food and how to manage what you eat on a daily basis will benefit you for life. :smile2:

Work out one to five times a week, depending on what work schedule allows. Don't really like going to the club by myself, but I go with some friends, and that makes it enjoyable. The workout is sometimes aerobic (elliptical), sometimes weights, sometimes both.

Stationary bike at home, but we've traded it in now for a small elliptical, which seems to be the best for my knees but still getting in a good sweat session. Maybe it's cuz I'm old, but the stationary bike hurt my butt too much after a couple years of using it.

We eat fairly healthy. Fresh vegetables, grilled meat, low on the carby/starchy things. Well, I usually have granola cereal, blueberries, and flaxseed for breakfast, so there are some carbs there. I enjoy cooking too much and we enjoy eating too much to be too self-depriving.

Despite all that, I look like a bowling ball. I blame cheese, yogurt, occasional things that sneak in, and alcohol. (I mean, in this day and age, I can't blame myself.) A few years ago, I got close to fighting weight and felt great. But habits of a lifetime and self-indulgence had their way with me again.
