Hi,

Yep I am a newbie and this is my first post. I have been a stephen King fan for .hmmmm about 36 years. ( I am dating myself !! )

My first book was Carrie. I bought most of his books after that until just the last few years, as I am unable to afford every single one in hardcover anymore.

I do have a question. Not sure posting it here is correct, but I suppose it can't hurt ?
I wrote to SK back in 81 regarding a book I had only heard about at the time, asking if I could aquire a copy. That book was "the Dark Tower "
He wrote back and told me how to obtain a special edition of the book.

I recently had to put my letter up for sale on eBay. :( It sold but the buyer backed out stating that he had come to find out that SK did not sign these letters but had an assistant do it for him.
Does anyone know anything about this >?

I tried posting a picture but I keep getting an error, so I will describe it briefly.
It was written to me and I have the envelope.
Typed on a plain white sheet of paper.
Signed in red ink

If you can help great ...and thank you in advance

Shirley

Sorry, that was before my time so can't say for sure but typically we sign our own names, not Stephen's, when we respond to fan mail. At that time he was personally responding so it's certainly possible it was his signature. The other possibility would be that the letters had been printed rather than handwritten if they were getting enough inquiries to warrant doing that. I do have contact with Stephanie Leonard who worked for Stephen at the time and will see if she has any recollection about this.
