I'm new here and this is my first post, so I hope I'm not stepping on anybody's toes (I know some people on message boards get very territorial to "newbies"). I just posted this story to facebook and thought maybe someone on this site might find it funny. Enjoy:
Random anecdote: I just remembered a day back in what I'm guessing was 2009 when I was working at a restaurant called Flying Burrito. I was working the register when a guy and his daughter come up to pay for their food, and the man looked EXACTLY like Stephen King. I'm a big King fan - both books and movies in which he made cameos - so I know what the dude looks like, and this guy was the spitting image of him. So I says to him, "I'm sorry, sir, but has anyone ever told you
that you look a lot like Stephen King?"
"All the time," he replies, "he's my cousin."
Flabbergasted, I says, "REALLY?! I'm a huge fan of his! I love his work!"
The man just snickered and says, "I'm sorry."
I was stunned. "Why?"
He smiles. "Because that guy is
CREEPY."
True story. To this day I like to entertain the idea that it actually was Stephen King and he just tells that story so people don't hound him for photo/autographs.

Welcome to the SKMB! Keep posting! We aren't territorial about noobies. Any message board rude to noobs sucks and you shouldn't be there but only here from now on.

As for your psuedo-sK encounter, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the individual you met gets called out for looking like sK a lot and enjoys responding perversely despite being unrelated to sK at all.

Welcome to the site, GrayBug. :) I really don't know if it was him... but this made me laugh and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he did say something like this.

Welcome sir. You wouldn't be talking about the Flying Burrito restaurants we have here in Northwest Arkansas by any chance would you?

More likely it was one of the countless people out there who bear a resemblance to Steve. I don't know of any cousins of his who look like him or that live in Tennessee but I haven't met all his relatives, so guess it's possible. I wouldn't think anyone who knows Steve would describe him as creepy. That's not been my experience at all.

Yes. Specifically, the one that used to be on Spring st...it's now on Dickson. I lived in Fayetteville for 8 years and just recently moved back to little rock.

It was actually in Northwest Arkansas. I've never gotten the "creepy" vibe from what I've read from his introductions, etc. Maybe it was just a lookalike who enjoys messing with people.

Then we probably crossed paths several times at your restaurant sir. I work just a few blocks from there in Fayetteville. That's one of our favorite lunch stops. Have a good weekend.

That's much more likely. We hear about that a lot. There was one actual creep who was going the step beyond and outright impersonating Stephen to hook up with young ladies. He was arrested on another charge so karma got its revenge without Stephen having to do so.
