Forgive me if there's another thread somewhere about this. I looked briefly but didn't see anything. I know some of out Tet-mates live down that way and I want to send out my personal prayers that you all will be okay when this monster hits. Please don't stay behind as this one looks like it's going to do a lot of damage and will basically just be sitting over the Houston area for days. There's going to be massive flooding and massive damage. If you have somewhere else to go then please do so!! I've been through one hurricane in my life and I will never do it again. Life is too valuable to take a risk. Be safe!!!!

Very scary--I've seen the storm growing stronger and stronger through constant updates from the Weather Channel app (even though I live in RI, lol), and it sounds terrifying. I checked on my friend who just recently down there, and luckily she is not near the hurricane's direct path. Hope anyone on here who might be affected is staying safe!

This might be a good time for a reminder about "SKMB Contacts". We all know how much we become concerned when a member goes todash. Years ago, a voluntary system was set up-- a way to stay in contact with the SKMB. Pick someone you trust and provide them with your personal contact information. In case you net goes down, you have to evacuate, or any reason you might need to be away. That person can then post for you and let us know you are OK. Over the years, we have learned a second contact is also a good idea.( just in case they are in a similar situation as the same time).

They just said on the Weather Channel that Harvey is moving at 2MPH!!! (((All in the path))) Stay safe!

When we had Hurricane Frances it was slow like that. The storm was moving so slow, that we had the eye pass over us and the eye lasted close to 8 hours. We were in hurricane conditions for over 24 hours (- the 8 hours for the eye).

Our Charms/ Cheri is in the path of Harvey- Houston area. I;m in contact and she is doing ok.
SusanNorton is in the NOLA area.

May all be safe. This is not the typical storm. Not only a wind event, but a long duration- days-- event of rain and flooding.
Bev Vincent is there but I think he lives in the hill country...or I could be wrong...not sure.

I've been through the area he lives in and it rather flat. My sister and niece live about an hour away from him and it'll probably flood where they are. So far they've only had a smidgen of rain and wind. I also have another niece that lives in Houston and she's refusing to leave her home. The reasoning is because the last time 'they' wanted everyone to leave it created huge traffic jams and all that happened at her house is that the wind blew over one of her plastic patio chairs. I hope she will be okay.

Weather Channel and NOAA doing a good job of updating. It looks like the Houston area will be getting one of the major feeder bands around 1AM thru noon tomorrow. They do expect major flooding. May all be safe.

It's quite flat where we are, but we're a few feet higher than the surrounding area, so we don't tend to flood. We've handled a lot of rain before, so we know what to expect. So long as we get the occasional lull, the water in the ditches recedes pretty quickly.
