I believe that their generator is up on their porch, which is 5 or 6 feet off of the ground. My sister just sent me a text that her and her husband are now over at her daughters house, which is on higher ground than their house is. I know she must be worried sick about her own house.
shine! you just answered my question. I hope her home will be safe, but her and the family are the important heirlooms.

Safety shield for all. Man was just interviewed on CNN/ people are getting desperate. People jumping into rescue boats and not following directions for safety. Nasty!

Thanks Marsha. I haven't heard from her since this morning when I texted her and told her to leave. They have a generator for power (hers hadn't gone out last I heard other than a couple of flickers). She has a freezer full of ice cream (well, not quite but there's a lot in there) and I told her yesterday she better get to eating it as the freezer won't be a priority if the power does go out.
Sending so many good vibes your sister's way! I've got a friend stuck in a similar situation. She, her kids, cat, and dog are stuck. Luckily, the's on the 3rd floor of an apartment building but she's not getting out any time soon.

It has to be hard but things can be replaced, people can't. I admit when you're not the one whose house and everything in it may be destroyed, that's probably a lot easier to accept.

I lived in Pasadena Texas when Hurricane Alicia went through. We survived the storm but it was the not having any power for 4 days in those extreme temperatures and humidity that really was the worst. I know people are going to be in the same situation this time and I feel for them, especially the elderly folks. It's miserable when it's hot and humid and there's no AC.

Yes, it's hard to be in that situation. You have to really think about what to take with you. Can't forget to take along the prescriptions and insurance info (medical, home and car!!!) and any older photos that can't be replaced.

I went through all this worry when Fort McMurray burned last summer. I understand how horrible it is. All my family were up there and I was terrified that they would not get out safely. My heart goes out to the people of Texas and their families who worry for them.

Hope the graphic will show. Harvey will not be done once it leaves TX. This is not a normal storm, so heads up all in the future predicted path.

* If the storm is forecast to dissipate within 3 days, the "Full Forecast" and "3 day" graphic will be identical

i hope it gets over its lingering nature as it moves inland. well, ideally it'd be nice if it just stopped lingering now. mother nature can be a mean cuss.
